Delaware Community Primary School
This work is involving the whole school of 182 children and will last for the whole school year! The project tipped off with a visit from Jay, Otis and Lehmon who entertained the whole school with their basketball skills and outlined the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Following this every child set themselves a pledge to become healthier and are exploring healthy diets and lifestyles. On Sunday 26th September the project came to life when 420 children, staff ,parents and family members had a great time supporting The Raiders in their home game against Guilford Heat! It was a fabulous family occasion – especially as Raiders won! The whole of the school curriculum is now planned around The Raiders with far reaching opportunities that include investigating the history of basketball, the different countries, cultures and backgrounds of the players and tracking teams around the world. Apart from this, the school is researching the wider aspects of the game including promotion, fundraising, kit design and merchandising ... with tremendous support from The Raiders (Dave Briggs) the school is about to set up their own business in order to raise the funds to make their own kit and mascot with their own unique brand of merchandise! Future plans include investigating all the different performance aspects of the game including playing, cheerleading, coaching, commentating, refereeing ... to name but a few. Children will be able to choose one aspect and work alongside the Raiders departments to explore it in depth. Watch out for The Raiders home game on March 20th when Plymouth Pavilions will host the first ever Delaware/Plymouth Raiders extravaganza! Don’t miss it! As a result of all their learning, next Summer the Delaware Raiders will put on their very own basketball tournament - with their own mascot and cheerleaders, wearing their very own designed kit and funded from their own fundraising and sponsors! This project has come about through amazing collaboration between Delaware School and Plymouth Raiders ... working together to make sure that children get the BEST learning experiences that they will remember forever!
