The business community is becoming
increasingly important to the Raiders as year by year we seek to
develop the club and build on successes of the previous season. It’s
a well known fact that our long term ambition is to play in European
competition. However, to do this, we need a stable financial base
and significant support from business, both locally and nationally.
Over the past couple of years we have
worked tirelessly to build the club’s reputation and brand, and we
now have one of the most respected and recognised brands, not only
in Plymouth, but in Devon and Cornwall.
The sponsorship of the team by The
Wrigley Company and their Airwaves brand of chewing gum is a huge
milestone for the club, and it has undoubtedly helped in more ways
than purely financial. It’s helped raise the profile of the team
both here in Plymouth and across the UK. While this has been one of
the most positive steps that the club have ever taken, we also
recognise the contribution made by smaller sponsorship deals – game
sponsorships, game ball sponsorships and player sponsorships, even
programme advertising.
Without sponsorship, the club would
cease to exist. It’s as black and white as that. Sponsors look to
sport to add value to their brand and naturally want to be
associated with success and progression rather than poor
performance. We’re in the very fortunate position where we continue
to enjoy the support of a wide range of companies.
The Raiders are extremely appreciative
of this support and have a reputation for giving excellent value for
money. We have a number of sponsors involved with the club who have
been supporting us for more than 15 years, so we must be doing
something right to hold onto them!
