Bob
Widdecombe
Life Vice President and Chairman
Bob has been involved in sport around Plymouth for most of his life,
playing football, squash and badminton at county standard. For 15
years, Bob was president of Devon Wednesday Football League and
currently represents basketball on the Plymouth Sports Forum and the
Plymouth Advisory Sports Council.
Bob has held a number of
senior strategic positions which have allowed him to support and
influence community sport across Plymouth, as Chairman of Plymouth
Sports Club for many years and currently Chairman of the Raiders.
Bob is passionate about
the difference that sports can make to the community. He was
instrumental in reducing vandalism in high crime schools within
Devon and Cornwall by introducing basketball programmes which still
operate today.
Bob’s wife Pat works as
the club’s Administrator.
Phil
Thorneycroft
Director
Phil is a Partner and Head of Family Office at Wolferstans
solicitors . His main areas of practice is divorce where he is an
accredited specialist in financial cases. Phil has made a number of
appearances on local radio and television dealing with such issues
as pre-nuptial agreements, financial provision and the effect of
pensions on divorce. He also practices as a collaborative lawyer.
Phil has played hockey
for many years and is currently a member of Plymouth Marjons Masters
team. His other leisure interests include skiing, music and football
(although he supports Sheffield Wednesday!) He is also a Trustee of
the Barbican Theatre Phil became a fan of Raiders when Wolferstans
began sponsoring the team over 15 years ago He became a Director of
Plymouth Raiders in 2008.
Phil’s passion for
Raiders has been taken up by his wife Eilish and son Conall and the
whole family are loud and proud Raiders fans.
I ain
Woodhead
Director
Iain joined the board with Phil in 2008 and has enjoyed contributing
significantly to ensure that Raiders continue to go from strength to
strength.
Iain is the Managing
Director of The Cellar Supplies Company and Kularoos and pursues a
number of other business interests.
He is a life long sports
enthusiast, competing at national level in swimming and water polo
in his youth and now enjoys keeping fit and playing squash.
Dave
Briggs
Chief Executive
Dave is a former player and coach with the Raiders, who has been
involved with the club for the last 25 years.
Formerly a junior and
then senior player, his playing days were cut short at the age of 21
following a bad ankle injury. He took up coaching and later ran the
entire Raiders development programme, which has turned out former
Raiders players
Gavin Love, James Loveridge, Gareth Till, Richard
Whitehouse, and of course, current team Captain,
Anthony
Rowe.
With a history of
working in marketing and public relations and his experiences with
basketball and with the club itself, Dave was asked in 2007 to join
the Raiders as Chief Executive, a position he jumped at.
Dave’s family have also
been very active with the Raiders in the past and present. His
late father, Brian, was a Director of the club for around 13 years,
and together with Pat, Brian’s wife, ran the club shop. Pat still
runs the shop on game nights now.

Love
Head Coach
Gavin
Love’s career with the Plymouth Raiders stretched over 13 years,
during which time, he established himself with a reputation as one
of the top British point guards in the game.

Jamie Burchell
Schools & Community Development Officer
Jamie has been with the Raiders since 1999, when he came to Plymouth
from Worcester to study at UCP Marjon. After graduating and winning
the EBL Division 1 League and Playoff titles with the club, Jamie
took a playing and community job with BBL champions Chester Jets in
2002.
After experiencing life
in the BBL for one season, in which the BBL Trophy was won, Jamie
returned to Plymouth in 2003, winning the League and National Cup
with the Raiders. During this time, Jamie was offered a full-time
coaching role at the club, a position he has held ever since.
In 2004, the Raiders
made the leap to the BBL, an accomplishment Jamie had dreamed about
since he picked up a basketball a decade before. He was a part of
the 2007 BBL Trophy Championship side, his second, an occasion that
is the highlight of his playing career so far.

Jay Marriott
Schools & Community Development Officer
Jay has joined Jamie
Burchell this year as Schools and Community Development Officer.
This increased role has given Jay the freedom to now sustain and
create programs that will see our youth development soar this year.
Jay’s past includes
playing college basketball in California, U.S, leading into a 9 year
professional career, playing in Hungary, Ireland, France, Spain and
two stints in the BBL, one with Birmingham, and now with his beloved
hometown of Plymouth.
Looking forward, Jay now
thinks of himself as a coach first and foremost, feeling it is now
his time to give back to the community and club. Playing will always
be a great passion and he will try to be a part of the BBL squad for
as long as he feels he can, but has taken great pride in being given
this opportunity.
Jay is also looking
forward to family life this season, he and his fiancée, Stacey, are
expecting their first child in March.

Nickie Tombs
Schools & Community Development Assistant
Nickie has been a fan of
the Raiders since 1983 and has been involved with the club since
1998. During this time her role within the club has developed and
she is now part of the Schools and Community team and Match Night
Organiser.
Her work with the
Schools and Community team sees her supporting Jamie and Jay as well
as going out to schools to deliver the Raiders’ highly successful
Hoops 4 Health Scheme.
On a match night Nickie
welcomes the away teams, referees and table officials to the
Raiderdome making sure their visit to us goes smoothly.
She has been fortunate
enough to follow the team all over the UK and is very proud to be a
member of the club. Nickie’s two sons are both avid Raiders’
fans and both enjoy playing basketball.

Pat has been involved in
sport all her life, gaining county honours at netball and hockey.
She continued to play
various sports until taking up squash which she played for 20 years,
reaching county standard.

Sarah
Catlow
Sports Therapist - UCP
Marjon
Sarah is Program Leader
for the BSc (Hons) Sport Therapy and the BSc (Hons) Rehabilitation
in Sport and Exercise degrees at UCP Marjon.
Sarah has been working
in sport for 16 years. She has worked with a variety of different
sports from the recreational athlete to the International athlete.
Sarah has worked with
many teams which include professional basketball, rugby, ice hockey
and football teams. She currently works with Plymouth Argyle FC
Youth Squads and the UCP Marjon Plymouth Raiders basketball team.
Sarah also spends time working with athletes from a variety of
sports including; triathletes, runners, netball players, badminton
players and volleyball players.
With the UCP Marjon
Plymouth Raiders squad, Sarah and her students look after the
players on a daily basis. They are involved with pre-season testing,
treatment of injuries, rehabilitation of players and working court
side during games.
Charlie
Legg
Strength & Conditioning Head Coach - City College Plymouth
City College Plymouth
works in partnership with Plymouth Raiders to provide 'Strength &
Conditioning' expertise. Accredited Strength & Conditioning coach
Charlie Legg, plus his students from the Strength & Conditioning
foundation degree, design and implement thepre season training camp
for the players.
Plymouth Raiders players
receive contemporary training methods that utilise the latest in
performance analysis software, functional movement screening and
sophisticated physiological testing.
Charlie Legg said "The
training camp is an intensive three week window in which the players
take part in energy system conditioning, pre-hab measures and
strength/ power training. On top of this the players undergo a vast
amount of technical/tactical work with the head coach. The players
arrive here fit but we get them fitter. The camp is extremely
professional.
The students from the
City College Plymouth Foundation Degree(that is validated by
Plymouth University) gain a unique insight into the culture of
professional team based conditioning.
They gain invaluable
experience into working within a professional sport support team.
This prepares them for future careers.
Neil
Damerell
Sports Nutritionist
Neil Damerell is a new
addition to the Plymouth Raiders back room staff this season, adding
his expertise in advising important nutritional guidance to the
team.
Neil has spent his whole
life enjoying sport and fitness, and the benefits that go along with
them. He currently can be seen enjoying endurance sport events like
long distance running and Ironman Triathlons, as well as the
occasion game of golf. Neil has been in the health and fitness
industry since 2007, and has gained an honours degree in Health,
Exercise and Physical Activity from UCP Marjons before completing a
Masters degree in Sport & Exercise Nutrition from Loughborough
University. During which time Neil has successfully set up and
provided his own lifestyle consultancy service, as well as gaining
essential experience working alongside leading UK strength and
conditioning professionals with TASS (Talented Athlete Scholarship
Scheme athletes), grass root and academy athletes at the High
