Plymouth Raiders’ star Drew
Lasker has issued a rallying call to the team’s fans ahead of
this weekend’s games away at Worcester Wolves on Saturday and home
at the Pavilions on Sunday against Essex Pirates.
“This is a huge weekend for us,” said Lasker.
We’re playing two teams that ideally we want to secure wins over.
Worcester are just ahead of us in the league, and Essex are just
behind us. If we can get a couple of wins now, it helps push us back
into contention for the playoffs again. We need the fans’ support
now more than ever.”
The Raiders’ next few games are all against teams
in contention for the playoffs. Throughout February, they play
Worcester, Essex, Cheshire, Leicester, London and Guildford. “If we
can win the majority of those games, we’re right back in the race
for the playoffs,” said Raiders’ Chairman Bob Widdecombe. It’s vital
that we get back on winning track now and get some momentum behind
us for what will be a tough last couple of months. We’re confident
we can do it.”
“Sunday’s game is particularly important,” added
Lasker. “We need the Plymouth fans to come out and support us – it’s
a Sunday game, and we always have good crowds on Sundays as the
games are early enough for families with young children to come
along. If you’re reading this and have never been to a game, why not
come along this weekend – its fantastic entertainment, with the best
cheerleaders and mascot in the country, and hopefully some of the
best basketball anywhere this weekend too! It’s a real cliché, but
the Raiders’ fans really are like a 6th man to us. When
the Pavilions is rocking, it’s a hard place for any team to play –
we’ve seen that already this year with the home wins over Newcastle
and Glasgow. Essex cannot be underestimated at all – they’re in
their first year of BBL action, and don’t have anything to lose. It
is all shaping up to be a good game, but we need our fans there with
us.”
Tickets are on sale now for the game against
Essex on Sunday. The event starts at 3.45pm and tickets are going
fast already. Tickets can be bought from the Plymouth Pavilions box
office either by visiting in person, or calling the hotline on 0845
146 1460.
