New Face Brody Bishop
19th July 2007

Kularoos Plymouth Raiders are delighted to announce that 6’1” British point guard Brody Bishop has signed for the team for the 07/08 season. His signing is an important piece of the puzzle for Coach Gary Stronach, as he continues to put together a team strong enough to compete at the top of the BBL.

Brody was born and raised in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada but his ties to England are strong, and he is proud to be a British citizen.  His paternal grandfather was born near Darlington and his mother was born and raised in Sutton, Surrey, where his grandparents still live.  Brody’s father Mel, who played for Cinzano Crystal Palace back in the late 70’s, instilled a great love for the game in Brody who has played basketball since a very young age.

“Getting Brody was our next step in developing this team to compete at a higher level,” said Gary Stronach, clearly pleased to have Bishop on board. “He’s a solid point guard who’s going to play a really important role on the team, and as with the other players this season, I want him to come in, work really hard and contribute to the team as much as possible.”

Brody led his high school team to a provincial championship playing at the guard position during his grade 11 year and went on to play for his provincial team, touring with them for a whole summer. Following his high school graduation, he left to play basketball for a junior college in Michigan and then returned to Canada where he attended Laurentian University in Ontario, starting at point guard for each of his four years there. In his final season at Laurentian, he averaged 15.7 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game and 3 assists per game. He also comes to the Raiders with a reputation for being an aggressive and tough defender.

“I’m really looking forward to stepping up to the next level in my game and realising my dream of playing professional basketball,” said Bishop. “More than anything, I’m excited about meeting my new team mates and Coach Stronach, and to working hard together to build a great team and have a successful season. I’ve been surfing the web checking out Plymouth and the Raiders and can’t wait to see my new home and check out the fantastic Plymouth Pavilions. Coach Stronach has told me how great our fans are, and I’m looking forward to meeting as many of them as possible.”
