The
Kularoos Plymouth Raiders
are ready to unveil one of the big steps in the
development of the presentation of games at the
Plymouth Pavilions - a dedicated basketball floor.
The tile floor that is
currently in the Pavilions is a hard and unfriendly
surface for a professional basketball game. Plymouth
were one of the last clubs in the BBL not playing on
a sprung wood or dedicated basketball floor and the
Raiders desperately wanted to change that.
Just before Christmas,
Raiders Chief Executive Dave Briggs did a deal with
a former BBL club to buy their floor from them, and
hey presto, the Pavilions has a brand new look!
What's even better, is that the floor is green - so
it matches the Raiders corporate colours!
The
floor was originally purchased for the World Student
Games that were held in Sheffield in 1991, but was
rarely used after that. For the last few years, it's
been languishing in a storage unit.
Raiders fans will be
able to see the new floor in full use at the home
game on Wednesday 20th February vs SAMG Verve
Scottish Rocks.
Raiders player Gaylon
Moore said "Not only is the Pavilions a great place
to play with the atmosphere, but now with the
addition of the new floor, its the best place to
play in Britain, its also nice to play on a floor
with some cushion"
"Its the next step in
our development as a club," said Dave Briggs. "We're
really excited to unveil the floor - we've done a
lot of work on it the past few weeks and we're
indebted to the Plymouth Pavilions and their staff
for their help in getting everything set up.
Hopefully the fans will like it - the players have
just finished training on it for the first time and
they had only positive things to say about it."
