Sickening.
That was the reaction today when the
Kularoos Plymouth Raiders
returned from a long weekend away playing in
Sheffield and Glasgow, to find that one of the
players’ houses had been broken into and a lot of
personal items had been stolen, including laptops,
TVs, cameras and other electrical equipment.
The team travelled back from Glasgow overnight, and
reached Plymouth at 5.30am on Monday. Upon
getting home, the players realised what had happened
and raised the alarm, calling the Police and head
coach Gary Stronach.
“The players are quite
rightly upset and disappointed,” said Raiders Chief
Executive Dave Briggs. “Computers went missing
containing important documents. Cameras, TVs and
other personal items were also stolen.”
“It comes to something
when the team and these players are away
representing the city, and they’re burgled and have
personal things stolen,” added Briggs.
“It’s something that
seems to be happening a lot more, with recent high
profile cases with Liverpool football players
suffering the same fate. People know when various
sports teams are at home or away – all they have to
do is look in a newspaper – and if they know where
the players live, then they know when there’s a gap
of opportunity to break in.
It’s
just sad and sickening to think that these people
live by stealing other’s possessions.”
Ironically, the
Raiders work closely with Crimestoppers, but never
thought they would have reason to use them,
themselves. We’d like to appeal that if anyone knows
anything about the burglary, they call Crimestoppers
anonymously on 0800 555 111.
