Newcastle Eagles took a massive step towards securing the BBL
Championship league title thanks to a 94-78 victory over their
nearest rivals Kularoos Plymouth Raiders at the MetroRadio Arena on
Friday night.
After a close opening quarter that the Eagles shaded 21-19, the home
side broke the game open with a 17-0 burst in the second period to
take the score out to 46-24.
The Eagles lead 50-27 at the half.
In the second half, the Eagles enjoyed their biggest lead of the
game at 69-37. The Raiders tried desperately to get themselves back
into the game, and managed to close the deficit in the final period
to 92-78 off the back of a 7-0 run at the end of the game but the
Eagles held on for the comfortable victory.
Olu Babalola led all scorers in the game with 21 points for the
Eagles, while Terrence Durham led the Raiders scoring with 15.
