The Marshall MK Lions became one of the trio of teams on ten BBL
Championship points as they overcame the Kularoos Plymouth Raiders,
who are just one place above them in the table, 81-78.
Tony Windless led the Lions with 18 points, just ahead of Peter
Heizer's 17. Anthony Martin led all scorers with 21 points in vain
for the Raiders.
The Lions, and particularly centre Shawn Jamison, came out strongly
and soon led 11-2 after 8 points from the big American. They
maintained their good start and led 31-18 after the first quarter.
It was much the same in the second as the Lions, led by Mike New and
Heizer, won the quarter 29-17 to post 60 first-half points and a
60-35 lead.
However, the Raiders wouldn't lie down and came out fighting in the
third stanza. They restricted the Lions to just 9 points and began
to narrow the gap on the back of a 14-1 run, influenced by 4 each
from DeAntoine Beasley and Gaylon Moore, to make it 69-59, which
became 69-61 going into the decisive quarter.
Amazingly the Raiders completed their come back and took the lead
late in the game. The Lions held out until there were just 4:00
left, when a long three-pointer from DeAntoine Beasley made the
score 72-73. However, the veteran Lions maintained their poise and
scores from Windless and Heizer made it 79-78 with 58 seconds left,
and only Terrell Brown would score again as he settled the game from
the charity stripe.
