The business community is becoming
increasingly important to the Raiders as year by year we seek to
develop the club and build on successes of the previous season. It’s
a well known fact that our long term ambition is to play in European
competition. However, to do this, we need a stable financial base
and significant support from business, both locally and nationally.
Over the past couple of years we have
worked tirelessly to build the club’s reputation and brand, and we
now have one of the most respected and recognised brands, not only
in Plymouth, but in Devon and Cornwall.
The
Plymouth Raiders are delighted to announce that they have signed a 3
year sponsorship deal with University College Plymouth St Mark & St
John. Under terms of the deal, the team will now be known as UCP
Marjon Plymouth Raiders.
“It’s fantastic
news,” said Raiders Chairman Bob Widdecombe. “Both UCP Marjon and
ourselves have very similar goals, and with our schools coaching
programme, we’re working with UCP Marjon’s target audience across
Devon and Cornwall. It makes a lot of sense for us both to work
together on initiatives and help each other as much as we can. We’re
already discussing other areas of support with UCP Marjon, and
things are looking very positive indeed.”
Without sponsorship, the club would
cease to exist. It’s as black and white as that. Sponsors look to
sport to add value to their brand and naturally want to be
associated with success and progression rather than poor
performance. We’re in the very fortunate position where we continue
to enjoy the support of a wide range of companies.
The Raiders are extremely appreciative
of this support and have a reputation for giving excellent value for
money. We have a number of sponsors involved with the club who have
been supporting us for more than 15 years, so we must be doing
something right to hold onto them!
