Gavin Love is
entering his second season as coach of the Plymouth Raiders
in the
UK's British Basketball League (BBL).
Taking the
Raiders from 10th place and an 11-25 record in 2009/10 to
5th place
and a 19-14 record in 2010/11, he has quickly established
himself with the
reputation as one of the top coaches in British basketball.
Coach of the
Month in the BBL for the month of December, and voted by the
other coaches in the league as runner up for the Coach of
the Year Award, his
team play a high paced, and entertaining style of
basketball. During the
2010/11 season, the team lead the BBL in scoring, FG%,
assists and steals.
His knowledge of
the BBL has led to him being invited to commentate on the
Sky Sports coverage of BBL games this season. He was also
selected to be coach
of the Rest of the World team at the end of season BBL All
Star game.
As a player,
Love moved through the Raiders youth development
teams, and was playing National League basketball at the age
of
17. When the Raiders moved to the BBL in 2004, Love was the
only starting British point guard in the league and also
served as
the team's captain for 10 years as a professional player. He
retired due to injury in 2008.
Named as an
assistant coach in 2009, he took on the
responsibility of individual performance improvement, game
tape analysis and team defence. Love was first choice to be
named Head Coach in the summer of 2010 when the previous
coach retired.
