Bell joined the Jets last summer, and made an immediate impact as he finished top scorer in Championship games with an average of 23 points per game.
The award was voted for by the BBL’s 12 head coaches, and 28-year-old Bell came out on top after a stunning debut season in Britain. Bell beat fellow American Trey Moore of Newcastle Eagles and Team GB captain Andrew Sullivan into second and third place respectively.
He also dished out 3.7 assists and had 2.03 steals for the Jets as they finished in fourth place (one place ahead of the Raiders) in the BBL Championship and knocked the Raiders out of the end of season playoffs in the first round. With Bell at the helm, the Jets also reached the semi-finals oof the BBL Cup.
Bell played in all 33 BBL Championship games for the Jets, averaging just over 38 minutes per game - a league-high - and scored a point every 100 seconds for his side.
“It was a tough decision to make,” said Raiders coach Gavin Love. “But its better to make it now rather than later in the season and bring in a great player like Jeremy who will really enhance the team. Ben has done a good job while he’s been here and he’s a great guy who has worked hard, but I thought we were lacking in a few important areas, and Jeremy helps to address these.“
Raiders’ Chairman, Bob Widdecombe, added “Jeremy’s offense tends to get all of the attention, but he’s a very accomplished and aggressive defender, and obviously has the experience of playing in the BBL last season with the Cheshire Jets, so he knows the situation that he’s coming into. It’s a very exciting move for the club.”
