6’10”
American centre, Paul Williams joins the Raiders
from BBL rivals, the Sheffield Sharks.
Williams
posted impressive an impressive 13.4 points, 8.5
rebounds and 1.3
blocks per game, and along with Anthony Rowe and
Lehmon Colbert form one
of the strongest front lines Raiders have ever seen.
He was a regular feature in
the BBL’s Team of the Week, and last year won the
BBL Cup with the Sharks.
He had the reputation as being one of the best big
men in the league, and this is something that
Raiders missed last year – a consistent and dominant
presence. Previous to coming to England, Williams
played with Tarragona in Spain’s LEB Silver.
Head
Coach Gavin Love is looking forward to having
Williams on the team this year. “It’s great to have
Paul joining the team for next season. I think he
played a huge
part in Sheffield’s successes last year. He has a
good array of post moves,
footwork, he’s a very underrated passer with a lot
of experience in the game.
He’s a tough rebounder and I’m looking for big
things from him this year.”
Along
with winning the BBL Cup, the Sharks finished 3rd in
the BBL
last year, though going into the last couple of
weeks of the season,
could still have finished first. A big reason for
the team’s success
was the performance of Williams during the season.
Williams
is looking forward to getting to Plymouth, meeting
up with his team-mates and starting work for the
team.
“I'm extremely happy to be a part of the team. I
hope
I can help them to be extremely successful this
year.” |
