Plymouth Raiders vs London Lions – Preview

After a devastating overtime defeat in the BBL Trophy Final, London Lions travel to the Pavilions this Sunday, eager to reassert their position atop the food chain.

With the season entering it’s final stages and play-off places still up for grabs, Raiders could not have picked a worse time for a downturn in form.  Their lost to Bristol Flyers last week means that Plymouth have picked up just one win in their last five games.  The Lions, on the other hand, are sitting pretty at the top of the table, having only lost two games all season.  Despite having secured a week one victory against the Lions, Raiders Head Coach Paul James is doubtful that the previous result will have any impact on this Sunday’s proceedings.

“We played them very early on in the season, the first weekend of the season actually.   We were different then, they are very different now…  I don’t think we are playing with the confidence that we were playing with back then, but we still know that we have it in us.”

If the Raiders are to pull off an unlikely victory, they will need some huge performances from the likes of Josh Wilcher, Donte Nicholas and Rashad Hassan. The triple-threat offense scored a combined 46 points against the Flyers last week but know they will have to find another gear if they are to test this staunch Lions defence.

The Lions have a plethora of players featured on the BBL stats leader board this season, the two most notable being Ladarius Tabb and Jordan Spencer.  Tabb leads the Lions in average points scored with an impressive 19.32 per game and Spencer leads in assists with 5.94.  This talented duo have already guided their side to two cup final appearances this season and will have undoubtedly occupied the mind of Coach James in the lead up to this game.
