The Plymouth Raiders are delighted to announce the return of fan favourite and last year’s MVP runner up, Joonas “The Hitman” Järveläinen.
The Estonian power forward had a productive and efficient first season with the Raiders, averaging 14.17 points and picking up 5.73 rebounds in just 24 minutes per game, while also posting a very respectable 82% from the free throw line.
Joonas had a number of standout performances for the Raiders, notably racking up 18 points and a massive 15 rebounds against eventual league winners, Leicester Riders at the Plymouth Pavilions in the Trophy, and notched up a season high of 28pts on two occasions against Cheshire, and again against Manchester away.
Coach James said, “Joonas is the kind of player that every team needs and I’m glad that we have him back for his second season with the Raiders.
“Joonas showed that he is a tough hardnosed player with a real understanding of the game, and was probably the Raiders most consistent player last season.
“Standing 6’8” he can score in many different ways and causes the opposition matchup problems. He is a strong rebounder at both ends of the floor and does what it takes to try and get the job done.
“I look forward to Joonas coming back for another season and teaming up with the rest of the guys”.
Joonas simply issued the following statement:-
