Raiders set for pre-season Tour De France

Plymouth Raiders are embarking on a trip across the channel as part of their preseason plans, where they will face French NM1 side, CEP Lorient in two friendly matches.

Raiders will set sail to Roscoff with Tour Sponsor, Brittany Ferries on Friday 7th September, where they will play the first of two friendlies against CEP Lorient in Lorient, before travelling back to Brest to play the second game on the Saturday night.

Excited about Raiders’ summer preparation plans, Coach James said, “This tour is going to be an opportunity to get a good preseason under our belts before the BBL season starts.

“These games will be a good starting point to see where we are as a team in our preparations for the new season and a chance to test the players and see how they respond to the coaching staff and in a different environment.

“We will be playing twice against a quality team and I’m looking forward to seeing how we shape up against them.

“At the same time it’s going to be a great opportunity to spend time getting to know one another off the court as well, which hopefully will prove to be a positive thing moving forward”.

Raiders’ Director, Richard Mollard added, “I’m delighted we’ve been able to form this partnership, and my sincere thanks must go to CEP Lorient, Brest Basket Sport and our friend Christophe Mignot of Morlaix Basket International for making this happen.

“The hospitality they are showing us is humbling, and to see their excitement about our visit to Brittany is infectious.

“It’s going to be a great opportunity to test ourselves against European opponents, while at the same time spending some quality time together to help bond as a team.

“We certainly hope to be able to return the favour, and welcome CEP Lorient to our wonderful City in the near future.”

Plymouth Raiders are also delighted to be welcoming local based shipping heavyweights, Brittany Ferries as a new corporate partner.  The Raiders will be enjoying the hospitality of the cruise ferry, Armorique, which was purpose build for the Plymouth to Roscoff route and introduced to the fleet in 2009.

Brittany Ferries’ UK Managing Director John Napton commented: “As we celebrate our 45th year linking Plymouth to France, we’re excited and proud to become a partner of the Plymouth Raiders.

“We look forward to welcoming them on board Armorique, and wish them bon voyage and bonne chance! And we hope that during the tour they’ll get a bit of well-earned time off to soak up some of the fantastic sights of beautiful western Brittany”.

Richard Mollard added, “My sincere thanks go to Brittany Ferries for their support in making this tour possible.  We’re very much looking forward to enjoying the trip across the channel on the Armorique, and building a longer term relationship with Brittany Ferries in the future.”

Fans will get the opportunity to #suivrelerenard and join the Raiders on tour, with further information about travel plans and official hotel partners to be published in the coming weeks.
