Return of Cap’n Zak

Plymouth Raiders are please to announce the re-signing of Club Captain, Zak Wells for the 2018-19 season.

The 25 year old, originally from Carshalton, Surrey, averaged 23 minutes a game last season, while notching up 6.8 points and grabbing 6.8 boards in that time.

Raiders’ new coach, Paul James, was on the receiving end of Well’s best performance of last year’s campaign, when he dominated the paint with 24 points, shooting 10 from 15 from the field, in a narrow defeat to the Worcester side, and James liked what he saw.

Speaking of his new recruit, James said, “I’m delighted that we have been able to pen Club Captain, Zak Wells, back for another season.

“Zak is going to be a very important player for the Raiders this season and showed at times last season that he can be a real handful, and a force difficult to handle in the paint when in the right frame of mind.

“I expect that kind of mindset from him on a more consistent basis this season.

“Standing 7’0” tall I have big plans for him and I’m confident that Zak will rise to the challenge I set him and have an outstanding season”.

Zak added, “I’m really excited to be returning, it was an easy decision for me, I just can’t wait to get started with the new season.

“I really enjoyed being at the club last year, the two owners in Richard and Ross, I love their vision of where the club is going and where they want it to go”.

“I was really excited with the appointment of Paul James, I’ve spent some time with him and he seems really excited.  Now he has the opportunity to come in and start a new culture here and I think really good things are going to come from it.

“I have a lot of goals to build on from last season, I know the fans expect a lot from me but I expect more from myself.  There was a lot of things I need to work on from last year, I’ve had a short time off and now I’m back in the gym and working on a lot of things in my game”.

Zak is the Raiders’ fourth signing of the summer, and there will be further exciting news early next week in regards to a new signing, and a returning player from last season.
