The Plymouth Raiders will look to build on their fantastic win over the Sheffield Sharks last weekend, as the side plays host to the third placed Glasgow Rocks this Sunday.
The clash will be the third between the two teams over the span of just four weeks, and the Raiders will be eager to turn around a disappointing string of results, after losing 81-95 and 86-106, in the first two outings respectively.
After the sides first win of 2018, center, Zak Wells, was pleased with his teammates spirit during training this week. He said: “Yeah it’s been really good, obviously it was the first win in a very long time, so it changes everyone’s mood in camp, everyone’s more uplifted, now we’ve got to keep getting them.
“We just needed that one win to kind of get us back on track, so I think moving forward it’ll definitely help us.”
One factor which secured the result over Sheffield, was the consistent level of play across all four quarters. Over the past week, Head Coach, Gavin Love, has been drilling his side on keeping poise and cutting mistakes in the last 10 minutes, an important practice not lost on Wells who added:
“I would say sometimes mentally we shut down a little bit in the fourth quarter, so this week we’ve been doing a lot of end game scenarios, working out what to do and just keeping our composure.”
The sides win on the weekend was further sweetened by the news Forward, Kinu Rochford, had been selected to be part of the BBL All Star Five, off his team leading, 15 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 blocks against the Sharks.
Glasgow will be a touch team to crack as they enjoyed their seventh straight home win over the Bristol Flyers, 84-79.
Despite this, Wells thinks the two sides familiarity with each other over the last month can prove to be in the Raiders advantage.
“You get to learn personnel, what they do, what their tendencies are, so yeah we don’t need to watch too much tape on them now, we know them very well which gives us the advantage.
“We have them again this weekend, we really do think we can get the win this time.
“Every team is a threat, whether you’re a high placed team or low placed, I think in this league anyone can beat anyone, and its shown throughout the season.
“Yeah, every teams a threat, but we’ve got to be ready to go, keep our heads, and hopefully get the win.”
