Plymouth Raiders take to the road on Sunday to face the BBL Cup champions Cheshire Phoenix in the league (5.30pm).
Phoenix currently sit eight points above Raiders in ninth and so will be looking to pick up points as the campaign heads towards the play-offs.
Raiders head to Cheshire on the back of a 103-97 win against Manchester Giants, a result which proved to be a big confidence boost after a tricky season.
Raiders guard Tre Bowman, who top-scored with 28 points against Giants, said: “Getting a big win like that at home, will always get the spirits high and everybody’s pretty confident right now.”
The win was the first in five games and showed to fans that the current roster can put on a display. Bowman added: “Knowing what we are capable of and seeing how good we were able to score with the ball as well as play defence is definitely a confidence boost.”
Bowman made his way into the BBL all-star five this week after putting up an impressive display at the Pavilions with nine assists added to his points haul, which really pleased the 26-year-old.
He said: “I’ve been working hard on my jump shot and it was nice to see some shots fall in the game so personally it’ll give me confidence going forward.”
Cheshire come into this game after an 97-84 loss to league leaders Leicester Riders, and themselves have only won once in five in the league, so will be looking to bounce back with a win.
The last time Plymouth faced Cheshire the score ended 83-70 to Phoenix, so Bowman admitted the Raiders have been working hard to improve their numbers at both ends of the court.
He said: “I think that we’ve improved this week because we’ve all been working hard and going to Cheshire I know it’s going to be a challenge but something we are looking forward to.”
The clash should provide an interesting match-up with both sides looking for points and pride going into the final months of the season.
Raiders would certainly love to record two wins in a row, and Bowman is sure they can do it.
He said: “We’re going into this game, like every game, thinking we have the mindset to win and it’s definitely a game we know we can win.”
Fans unable to make the trip to Cheshire will be able to watch the game for free at Barjons (Marjons bar) on the big screen alongside fellow fans and club officials in a trial which if goes well, could become a regular fixture in the calendar.
