Basketball returns to Plymouth this weekend as your Raiders take on the Cheshire Phoenix. Head coach Paul James will be checking his injuries, and checking them twice, as the embattled Raiders look to avoid the naughty list with a win on Sunday.
The extended break will have suited a Plymouth squad that has been decimated by injuries of late. The Raiders welcome back Declan Soukup, Joonas Jarvelainen and Josh Wilcher, who are all available for selection once again after missing considerable game time over the last month.
Both of these sides are languishing in the mid-table mire of the BBL with identical records of 4-6. Plymouth do hold a marginal advantage in recent form having won two of their last five. If the Phoenix lose this Sunday, they will return to Cheshire with the unwanted record of 0-5 in their last five games.
If the Nix want more than just a lump of coal this yuletide, they will need the likes of Momcilo Latinovic and Dii’Jon Allen-Jordan to turn up the heat in Plymouth this weekend. Allen-Jordan returned to Cheshire this year and has continued to impress fans with his power and raw athleticism. The New Jersey native has made 70 goals from the field this season and the Raiders will need to be wary of the imposing forward. With 20 three pointers, guard Momcilo Latinovic is another player Plymouth be mindful of. The Hungarian-Serb is a three-point specialist, currently shooting at 51%.
‘The Hitman’ Joonas Jarvelainen and Josh Wilcher are both back in contention for this weekend’s game after lengthy spells on the sideline. The duo are sure to spark the Raiders offense back into life after a difficult stretch in their absence. Joonas’ range and strength combined with Wilcher’s playmaking ability is enough to strike fear into any team they face, including the Cheshire Phoenix.
Tip off is at 15.00 on Sunday and tickets are still available for the game at https://www.plymouthraiders.com/tickets/
