Weekend Preview – Rocks vs Raiders

Your Plymouth Raiders will make the lengthy excursion to Scotland this weekend to take on Glasgow Rocks in week 7 of this enthralling 2018/2019 BBL season.  The Raiders are flying high after their dominant 86-68 home win over South-West rivals Bristol Flyers in the first round of the BBL Cup last weekend.  Glasgow on the other hand are struggling to find any semblance of consistency, losing five of their last six games.

The Raiders looked impressive last weekend as they expertly dispatched the visiting Bristol Flyers in a feisty local derby. Head Coach, Paul James described the home side’s display as a “complete performance” on both sides of the ball.

“I thought the guys were great.  Not only defensively but offensively I thought we were very disciplined and played with some composure.  This is what we can do.  We’ve set the bar high now and now we need to stick with it.”

If the Raiders are to reach and exceed that bar against Glasgow, they will be looking to their leaders of last weekend.  Joonas Jarvelainen lived up to his ‘hitman’ nickname, scoring an imposing 29 points against the Flyers.  Jarvelainen, an integral part of the Raiders’ offense, will want to continue his blistering start to the season against the Rocks on Sunday.  On the other side of the ball, Donte Nicholas finished with a game-leading 16 rebounds and played a major part in a formidable defensive performance.

Bouna Ndiaye and Gareth Murray will be providing the offensive spark for the Rocks this weekend.  The duo combined for 42 points in their 89-61 win against Worcester Wolves and the Raiders defence will have to be at their very best to keep this pair quiet.

These teams last played each other on the 7th of October 2018 and the Raiders ran out 87-83 winners in a tightly contested game at the Pavilions.  The Raiders will be hoping for a repeat of this result however with a long journey ahead and a home crowd advantage, Glasgow aren’t to be taken lightly at all.

Can the Raiders exploit the cracks and fault lines that have developed in the Rocks this season or will they simply grow stronger under the pressure?  Find out this Sunday at 5pm.
