Plymouth Raiders vs Leicester Riders – Preview

Plymouth Raiders host Leicester Riders this weekend as they look to put their disappointing BBL Trophy exit behind them.

After their defeat to Glasgow Rocks last Friday, the Raiders travelled to Surrey where they overwhelmed the Scorchers to record a 112-98 win.  Despite the absence of star-forward Donte Nicholas, Plymouth were able to overpower Surrey’s defence, scoring an incredible 40 points in the first 10 minutes.

Raiders point guard Josh Wilcher had a monster game against the Scorchers, finishing with a staggering 19 assists and 19 points.  Ruthless in attack and selfless when it mattered, this was a record-breaking performance that has garnered praise from across the BBL.  Wilcher will need to be similarly impressive on Sunday as Plymouth look to record their first victory against the Riders since 2012.

Rashad Hassan was also a standout performer for the Raiders in Surrey, scoring a team-high 34 points. The 6’8 Forward has been immovable atop the BBL points per game leader board and will need to assert himself early on if the Raiders are to get a foothold against Leicester.

Back-to-back BBL Player of the Month Donte Nicholas should be fully healthy and back in the starting five once again on Sunday after illness kept him out of the Scorchers game.  The fan-favourite had an electrifying January, leading the Raiders to crucial away wins against Newcastle and Sheffield.

Conner Washington is undoubtedly the player to watch for the Riders.  The athletic playmaker poses a danger from anywhere on court and has a three point percentage rate of 48% to show for it.  With an average of 15.19 points per game this season, JR Holder will also have caught the attention of Raiders Head Coach Paul James.  An aggressive high-press defence is the key to subduing the 2018 BBL Trophy Final MVP, who is particularly dangerous when driving at the rim.

Tip off is at 15:00 this Sunday at the Pavilions.  You can secure your tickets for the game at www.plymouthraiders.com/tickets.  Make sure you ‘follow the fox’ on Twitter @officialraiders to keep up with all the latest Raiders news.
