Plymouth Raiders suffered a narrow defeat against Worcester Wolves in front of a full house at the Plymouth Pavilions on Thursday night.
Raiders came into the game on two game losing streak whilst Worcester were the opposite, holding a seven game winning streak record.
It was the Raiders who started stronger opening up a 17-9 lead in the first seven minutes of the game with point guard Neil Watson hitting three 3-point shots in that period on his way to a game high 31 points. Worcester reduced the gap to five by the end of the period. The second quarter saw the Wolves change the table with a 23-8 run opening up a ten point lead of their own with 3:37 remaining in the half. A time out by Coach Gavin Love helped the Raiders but it was still the Wolves who led at half time 38-44.
Both sides traded baskets in the third with the Raiders closing the gap to a single point with 10 minutes to play. With a loud crowd behind the team, the score was eventually tied at 72-72 with a little over four minutes remaining. Three points from Louis Sayers and five from Joonas Järveläinen put the Raiders five in front before Worcester’s Brandon Parrish wiped that out with five points of his own. The game was sealed from the free throw line with Raiders making three of four whilst the Wolves made six of seven giving them a 83-86 win to take home.
