Raiders Add Devontavius Payne

The Plymouth Raiders welcome the addition of combo guard, Devontavius Payne to the 2018/19 roster.

The 23 year old from Carbondale, Illinois, spent the past two seasons with NCAA1 college, East Tennessee State, where he averaged 9.33 points per game with a 39% three point shooting average.

Prior to joining ETSU, Devon was a second team All-American for John A. Logan College where he ranked 11th in the country in scoring with 21.6 points per game

After being awarded the Region 24 Player of the Year, Devon was selected to participate in the 2016 NJCAA All-Star Game in Las Vegas after leading John A. Logan to a 24-8 record, shooting 51% from the field, 39% from 3-point range, and 80% from the free throw line during the 2015-16 season

Raiders’ Head Coach, Paul James said “I’m pleased to welcome Devontavius to the Raiders family.

“He comes to us off the back of a couple of very successful seasons at ETSU and is a combo guard who has many positive attributes that I hope will complement well the talent we already have on the team.

“He can score in many ways and will help to stretch the floor with his long range shot-making ability, as well as facilitate the scoring of others on the team.

“Defensively he is a real competitor and I look forward to him joining up with the rest of the group very soon”.

Speaking of signing his first professional contract, Devontavius added “ I’m ready to get some work done and I’d give an arm and a leg to play basketball”

Steven Forbes, Head Men’s Basketball Coach at ETSU commented via Facebook, “Devontavius is the epitome of a true student-athlete.

“During his 2 years at ETSU he excelled on and off the court the entire time he was here.

“He is the most low maintenance player I’ve ever coached. I’m so proud of him and overjoyed his “Dream” was turned into reality”.

Devontavius will be joining the team today, and will be in action away against the Bristol Flyers on Friday 19th October, before returning to make his Pavilions debut against the Newcastle Eagles on Sunday 21st at 3pm.
