Raiders add Two Time BBL Team of the Year, Power Forward

The Plymouth Raiders are pleased to announce that two time BBL Team of the Year, Power Forward, Rashad Hassan will be joining the club for the remainder of the 2018/19 season.

29 year old, 6’8” Hassan signed for the Leicester Riders in 2013 straight from NCAA1 college, Savannah State, where he spent two seasons, the second of which he picked up his first Team of the Year award, ranking him amongst the best 5 players in the league, averaging 17.7 points and 7.1 rebounds a game.

Hassan then joined BBC Sparta Bertrange in the Total League for the 2015-16 season, where he continued to dominate with 21 pts and 12 rebounds a game, before returning to the BBL for the 2016-17 season, this time with the London Lions.

While with the Lions, playing alongside Raiders’ Centre, Zak Wells, Rashad claimed his second spot in the BBL Team of the Year, improving on his previous BBL stats with 18.65 points and 8.46 rebounds a game, claiming the BBL Player of the Month titles in both October and November.

Most recently Rashad has applied his trade in the Australian SEABL notching up 18.1  points and 7.5 rebounds a game.

Raiders’ Head Coach, Paul James said “I’m really excited about the signing of Rashad Hassan.  We have been steadily developing as a team, but it has been very evident that we have been struggling from the power forward position.

“Rashad becoming available and subsequently signing for us can only be seen as a positive thing for the Raiders moving forward.

“He has played in the BBL with Leicester Riders and London Lions and proved to be one of the best power forwards in the league. Hopefully he can put up the kind of numbers he had with those teams, here with the Raiders”.

Raiders new recruit, Hassan added, “I’m excited to be joining the Plymouth Raiders family!

“I feel rejuvenated and ready to perform in Britain’s Ocean City.  I’m looking forward to learning from Coach Paul James and teaming up with the guys.

“I’m thankful for this opportunity. Winning is everything and the time is now!”

Rashad will be lining up for the Raiders in Sunday’s game in Glasgow, and Raiders’ fans will have their first opportunity to see Rashad in home action on Sunday 11th November against the Manchester Giants.

It is with regret that the club also announces the departure of power forward, Javis Howard in a required move to allow Rashad to utilise one of only three US import slots allowed on the roster.

The club sincerely thanks Javis for all his hard work, determination, and professionalism, and everyone at the club wishes him all the very best for the future.
