A poor fourth quarter resulted in the Raiders returning to Plymouth with a loss following a 91-80 defeat at the hands of Cheshire Phoenix. Holding a healthy 56-67 lead with 10 minutes to play, the home side outscored the visitors 35-13 to take the victory in front of a noisy crowd.
The game started evenly with both sides matching each other before Cheshire opened a seven point lead with three minutes to play. A 9-1 run for the Raiders closed the quarter giving them a 22-23 lead. A trading of baskets saw the home side edge the first half 44-41 and both coaches took their teams to the locker rooms looking for ways to nudge themselves in front.
Coach Gavin Love’s words had an affect on the Raiders with the team holding the home side scoreless for the first five minutes of the second half whilst scoring 12 of their own. Raiders held the lead for the remainder of the quarter limiting Cheshire to just 12 points in total.
The final period saw Raiders score just four free throws in the opening five minutes whilst the home side hit 16 to take the lead by one. A further 13-3 run for the home side gave them their biggest lead of the game of 11 which the held until the end of the game to take the victory.
American guards Tre Bowman and Eric Eaves once again led the Raiders in scoring with 17 and 16. Denzel Ubiaro had 11 off the bench along with Stefan Djukic on 10. Cheshire guards Robert Sandoval and Malcolm Riley combined for 50 points, 19 rebounds and 16 assists for the home side leading the team to victory.
Raiders visit London Lions on Wednesday 4th April, 7:30pm before returning host league leaders Leicester Riders on Sunday 8th April.
